The company was founded in 1965 by David King, Robert Braithwaite, and Simon Bladon. Initially named ‘Marine Projects (Plymouth) Ltd.’, the company began its operations building small pleasure craft.

Over its history, Princess Yachts has expanded its product range to include larger motor yachts and has established a global dealer network. The shipyard's production facilities are located in Plymouth, covering multiple sites. These facilities integrate various aspects of yacht construction, from design and engineering to manufacturing and fit-out.
