Davie Yards Inc.

Davie is Canada's oldest and largest shipbuilder, founded in 1825 by Allison Davie at Lévis on the south shore of the St Lawrence opposite Québec City. Across two centuries it has delivered more than seven hundred vessels, and its output reads as a history of Canadian maritime industry: icebreakers, ferries, tankers, naval auxiliaries and government vessels.

The yard is not a yacht builder in the conventional sense, and the pleasure vessels associated with its name — such as the 51.5-metre Beauport of 1960 — are typically former commercial or passenger ships converted to private or charter use. These are heavy, riveted and welded steel hulls with the seakeeping and endurance of working ships, a category that continues to attract owners interested in explorer conversions.

Today Davie is a strategic partner in Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy and holds a programme of polar icebreakers, with additional facilities acquired in Finland to support that work.
