Amels

Amels is a Dutch shipyard specializing in the construction of superyachts. The company was founded in 1918 by Fop Smit. Initially, Amels focused on general shipbuilding, including fishing trawlers, tugboats, and cargo vessels. In the 1960s, Amels transitioned into yacht building, constructing its first luxury yacht, the 60-meter (197-foot) Kaseem, in 1982. This marked a turning point for the company, establishing its presence in the superyacht market.

In 1991, Amels became part of the Damen Shipyards Group, a large Dutch shipbuilding and engineering conglomerate. This acquisition provided Amels with increased resources and access to advanced shipbuilding technologies. Under Damen's ownership, Amels expanded its facilities and refined its construction processes. The shipyard is known for its Limited Editions range, which offers pre-engineered superyacht platforms that can be customized to individual owner preferences. This approach aims to reduce delivery times while maintaining a high degree of personalization. The Limited Editions series includes several models, such as the Amels 180, Amels 200, Amels 242, and Amels 206. In addition to new builds, Amels also provides refit and support services for superyachts through its Damen Yachting division.

Amels' design philosophy typically involves collaborations with external yacht designers for both interior and exterior styling, while its in-house teams manage naval architecture and engineering. The shipyard has a history of working with notable designers to create distinctive yacht aesthetics. Materials commonly used in Amels yachts include steel for hulls and aluminum for superstructures, a standard practice in large yacht construction to achieve durability and optimize weight. The company's production facilities are located in Vlissingen, alongside other Damen Yachting operations. Amels continues to focus on the large luxury yacht market.
